A Life of Interconnectedness: We Are More Connected Than We Realize
Imagine a beautiful thread that interconnects us all.
Something like an elegant spider’s web—but different.
Consider a grander perspective… the universal web of life, weaving through all things.
We are more connected than we give ourselves credit for.
Sometimes that connection reveals itself slowly, in quiet moments of stillness. Other times, it arrives like a gentle thunder—stopping us in our tracks.
Signs and Symbols: Spiritual Connection in Everyday Life
Brenda (I’ve changed her name for privacy) had booked a reading with me a few weeks prior. From the moment I saw her email arrive, I felt something distinct about it—something only I would recognize. It carried a familiarity… like Birch Hills, Saskatchewan, where I was born.
Even her name felt like a quiet signal of significance.
Before her appointment, I sat down to tune in—a practice I’ve developed over the years.
As I opened to the session, I immediately felt her partner’s spirit and his easygoing nature. I knew it would be an interesting session… one filled with stories.
On the drive to Brenda’s home, just outside of Ottawa, I could feel his presence in the passenger seat. He was along for the ride. I could feel his life and our interconnectedness.
There was a lightness to him. A fondness for the car—maybe a truck—and a nudge to turn on the radio and play some “good old music.”
So I did.
I smiled… and then noticed, out of the corner of my eye, he was wearing a hat.
No—not just a hat. A crow-like headdress. Unusual to some, but not to me. I knew that visual held meaning—for him, and for me.
Crows have followed me since childhood.
Hopping from branch to branch, perched along backyard fences, gathering in groups during my walks to and from school or figure-skating lessons… they always found their way to me as if they were protecting me in some way. I would even consider the crow or raven, one of my most meaningful animal spirit totems.
Ah, the animal kingdom… nature itself… even the trees.
All beautiful messengers.
Bridging our world with something greater.
A reminder that we are far more rooted, and far more connected, than we often realize.
All it takes is a moment to slow down.
To pause.
To notice what is already there—indoors or out, in waking life or within dreams.
(Where do you notice it most?)
Stories That Weave Through Our Lives
As I arrived at Brenda’s home, I felt the peacefulness of the property before I even stepped out of the car.
There was a sense of pride from the man in spirit as I carefully made my way to the front door—ice covering everything from a recent winter rainstorm.
Just as I stepped towards the front door and before I could press the doorbell, the door opened. There Brenda stood, greeting me with the warmest smile.
I felt it immediately—a wave of warmth before she even spoke.
“I’m so nervous, Christie!” she said, laughing softly.
“That’s okay,” I replied. “Completely normal.”
“I’m here to share love, light, and stories. Nothing scary. That’s not my way.”
As she helped me with my coat, she began telling me about her family.
“We’re from Melfort, Saskatchewan, you know, and—”
I paused.
“Melfort? I grew up there. My dad was an RCMP officer—we were stationed there.”
We stood in the entryway for a moment… taking in the threads already weaving between us.
The reading unfolded beautifully.
Her partner’s personality, his stories, his presence—it all came through with warmth and clarity.
Time seemed to slip by as each memory surfaced.
At one point, I shared the image I had seen on the drive—the crow headdress, worn proudly.
I knew it held significance.
Brenda’s eyes widened.
“What did you just say?”
She began sharing a story—one that aligned perfectly.
She even had a video on her phone, adding another layer of meaning.
I simply listened.
Some things don’t need explanation. They’re already known. That’s the nature of stories.
The way they weave through our lives… intertwining in the most unexpected and meaningful ways.
The timing. The symbols. The connections we often call “weird" or synchronicity, "an ever-present reality for those who have eyes to see."
My sister, Jamie, calls them supernatural. I’ve always loved that word.
Super… yet natural.
To me, it feels like a beautiful thread of light.
A tapestry of interconnectedness we don’t always see—but can feel.
Sometimes it lingers quietly. Other times, it tugs at us…guiding us toward something.
An idea. An insight. A spark of curiosity.
Ah… curiosity. To wonder. To wander. Thank you, Alice in Wonderland.
For reminding us of that imagination often leads us somewhere deeper—
even when it feels abstract. Because that’s where the magic lives.
These moments find us when we are open.
When we are exploring.
When we allow ourselves to follow what calls us forward.
There were many meaningful moments in that session with Brenda.
I know she felt them too.
All rooted in love, in memory, in something that continues… even beyond what we can see.
As our time came to a close, she gave me a look.
I recognized it instantly.
She had been holding onto a question.
A difficult one.
“Is there more love for me in my future?” she asked softly.
“Is it okay?”
In all my experiences connecting with loved ones in spirit—very much alive, just in a different way— their message is clear.
They want us to love.
More.
To love others.
To share it.
To express it.
To live it.
To show what love looks like.
What it feels like.
Through our words.
Through our care.
Through our presence.
We are connected.
Deeply.
Beautifully.
And sometimes… we just need to get out of our own way.
Out of our minds—
and back into our hearts.
Where does connection find you?
In nature?
In an animal that catches your eye when you're out and about?
Maybe a trail of thought to a distant memory, then a song 'pops on' the radio, an odd coincidence.
To meeting a stranger at a local grocery story who becomes something more?
“Synchronicity is an ever-present reality for those who have eyes to see.” — Carl Jung, Synchronicity
Here's a quick thought for you.
To go out. To go outside out of isolation.
To explore and to strive forward.
Be present to what is already waiting for you. As I like to say, "Holding in the balance waiting for you to show up."
And in the moments when grief takes your breath away…
know that in the very next breath, something is holding you.
Guiding you. Walking with you.
Your loved ones. Your guides. The Great Spirit....Offering quiet wisdom.
Gentle nudges. Love.
Even if all you can find is one moment of stillness…
one breath of peace.
Breathe in life.
Let go of what isn’t loving.
The essence of life is not about purpose.
It is about meaning.
And meaning…
is something only you can create.
Like a blank canvas…
waiting for you to cast the brushstroke.
What will you paint?
What beautiful threads will you follow?
Reflective Moment:
If this resonated with you, I invite you to take a moment to notice the threads in your own life… and where they may be guiding you next.
You may already be feeling where you’re being led.
Trust that.
A Journaling Moment:
Drawing from your moment of reflection above, feel free to express yourself through writing. Journaling is a helpful vehicle while exploring those threads of connection, insights, ideas of wonder. Let them land. Let them flourish through the written word.
I find this powerful at times, sometime quite profound and empowering.
Cultivating Awareness and Intention in Daily Life
These connections are always available to us—but they require attention.
Notice the signs around you: nature, animals, songs, messages, or even subtle nudges in your day.
Pause. Slow down. Breathe.
Be curious about the connections that appear, the “threads” guiding your path.
Even during grief, there is guidance. Loved ones, spiritual guides, or the Great Spirit offer quiet nudges and support. One mindful breath can open us to their presence and the subtle ways life is interconnected.
Following Your Own Beautiful Thread
The essence of life is not just purpose—it’s meaning. And the meaning is yours to create.
Each experience, each connection, each symbol is part of a larger tapestry—waiting for you to notice, reflect, and follow.
What threads are guiding you right now? Where are you being nudged to pause, reflect, or act?
This is by far one of my favorite writings I've shared here. I hope you enjoyed it. You may also enjoy, The Woman Who Became a Tree.
