Trusting Your Authentic Voice

Echoes from Beyond.

“The most important aspect of love is not in giving or receiving: it’s in being. When I need love from others, or need to give love to others, I’m caught in an unstable situation. Being in love means seeing the Beloved all around me.” - Ram Dass

As I stood behind the podium, a calmness settled in.

I heard the whisper of these words: 'Be yourself.'

Those words echoed in the quiet moments leading up to the talk—a talk that would cover and show intuitive flow in the moment, Linking Into Language of Oneness.

And then, I began.

A Memory at the Cottage Dock

The Cottage Dock

Forty years ago, I sat at the edge of our family cottage dock in the early morning, waiting for the day to begin. It had become a personal ritual.

I playfully tapped my toes in the water, waiting for the minnows to nibble, and noticed the water spiders race across the surface.

Everything was quiet. It always felt extra special—just me and my morning.

As my eyes scanned the lake, I watched ripples move across the water and fish leap to catch their breakfast.

I hadn’t heard from my loons yet.

Just as that thought crossed my mind, one called out with a soulful wail, echoing across the lake like an old telephone:

"Where are you?"

I waited and listened for its mate to reply. Ten seconds later, its mate answered:

"I’m over here."

I too played with my echo, wondering what was behind it. My gaze followed that water to the shoreline on the other side of the lake, then up to the sky, and beyond.

I wondered what was in the beyond, something more than meets the eye.

In the stillness, I felt it. Something special...

Something stirred—a warmth washed over me, a tug at my heart. I didn’t have a word for it then, but now I know it as Oneness: everything, everywhere, all at once.

This is my first memory when I started to notice there was something more than what the physical world presented to me.

The shifts surprise and delight

"Be yourself. I heard again. Tell your stories."

I stepped away from the podium and walked myself over to the audience, took a breath and continued.

Despite the talk I had planned I continues to believe in the power of intuition as a guided knowing that would come into play spontaneously. A story, a quote, an idea would float into my thoughts as I was speaking.

"Be with, be with yourself, each other, and as a whole. Introduce yourself to each person beside you. A great reminder how we can forget to acknowledge we are more than ourselves. We are with each other too. Beyond that, we are the collective, participants in the collective consciousness and oneness in flow right here are now, I shared."

A Demonstration of Deeper Connection

"Your deepest wisdom emerges not from forcing or planning but creating space for quiet connection – with yourself, with others and with something larger." - Christie Flynn

I knew I needed to show this on a deeper level—to demonstrate how human connection transcends ordinary communication, how we can touch each other's consciousness through presence and intention.

As I continued I walked over to a woman in the front row, our eyes interconnected, never blinking. All eyes were on us.

I said "hello" to her soul with my thoughts, my heart and soul. Our beingness blended together, demonstrating the profound connection possible when we move beyond surface-level interaction.

The sides of her mouth began to curve slightly into a gentle and kind smile. I too smiled back to her. We both took a breath together.

"Hello to you too, Christie," I heard her say in my head and smiled back to her.

I took another breath, walked back from her and looked at the audience. You couldn't hear a pin drop.

"Did you feel that?" I asked the audience as I scanned left to right, linking eyes with as many as I could. Some said "yes", while others nodded in response.

This was what I wanted them to understand—that connection isn't just about words or gestures, but about the energy we share, the presence we bring, and the consciousness that flows between us when we're truly open to one another.

I paused at times throughout the workshop creating space for additional connections with the audience to impress upon the idea of being with each other.

It was one of the most profound moments I've ever felt during a speaking event.

I continued on feeling the flow and adhered to most of the plan.

I offered a guided breath exercise, meditations, writing prompts and a visualization to link into guidance for themselves.

Three hours passed in what felt like minutes. The workshop was over.

In some small way, I was sad it was over.

As I gathered my things—notebook full of insights I'd barely remember, pen caps scattered on the floor, the remnants of the shared lunch—I moved slowly, reluctant to break the spell.

Other participants were already heading to their cars, calling out cheerful goodbyes, making tentative plans to stay in touch.

I looked up as Karen walked over to me. Without hesitation, she reached out and took both my hands in hers. Her touch was warm and sure, and in her eyes I saw the same recognition that had sparked between us hours earlier.

"We had a special moment, Christie," she said, her voice soft but certain. "I'll cherish that forever. We are bonded in that oneness like you said."

My throat tightened. Someone had witnessed what I'd experienced. Someone understood that we'd touched something sacred together, something that transcended the usual polite connections of a workshop day.

"Yes," I managed to say. "Yes, we are."

We stood there for a long moment, hands clasped, surrounded by the gentle chaos of people packing up but somehow still held in our bubble of connection.

I realized this was its own kind of meditation—this acknowledgment, this gratitude, this conscious recognition of grace when it appears.

When we finally let go and hugged goodbye, I felt complete. Not because the experience was ending, but because it had been fully received, fully honored.

Although Karen had given me an incredible gift by naming what we'd shared, by making it real through her words, I knew it already.

The Deeper Truth

Trust in your authentic voice. The voice within.

Your deepest wisdom emerges not from forcing or planning but from creating space for quiet connection – with yourself, with others, and with something larger.

Playing with the echoes and wondering is a perfect metaphor for how curiosity and openness can lead you to profound experience when given the chance.

It is in the moments of pausing, sensing, and honoring the idea of "Oneness" – that sense of everything, everywhere, all at once – that we find a touchstone to guide us.

Picture yourself taking a seat at the edge of your dock.

Imagine all the beauty as it unfolds for you, nature calling out like echoes from beyond, whispering messages of guidance. Here, at this threshold between earth and water, between effort and flow, something honest emerges.

There's something so honest about recognizing this for yourself – how when you stop trying to control and instead listen deeply, you discover access to what seem like simple pieces of wisdom you didn't know were there.

A reminder that the most authentic moments often come when you trust what emerges naturally rather than forcing what you think should happen.

That childlike wonder and playful curiosity – these are important qualities to carry forward, especially when sharing yourself with others, and most importantly, with yourself.

Those words I heard before stepping into a difficult conversation – "Be yourself" – now feel like an invitation to return again and again to that edge of the dock, where the truest version of ourselves has always been waiting.

Not something to create or achieve, but something to remember.

Something to come home to.

The Wisdom of the Dock

The most profound insights don't come from chasing answers but from creating space for them to find us. Like sitting at the edge of a dock, we position ourselves at the threshold between knowing and unknowing, between effort and surrender, waiting with curious patience.

Three Core Ideas

1. Wisdom Through Stillness

Our deepest understanding emerges not from forcing solutions but from pausing long enough to hear what's already there. In the quiet space between thoughts, between breaths, between trying so hard – that's where clarity lives.

2. Childlike Wonder as Compass

Playful curiosity opens doors that serious striving keeps locked. When we approach our inner landscape with the same wonder a child brings to echoes across water, we discover wisdom disguised as simplicity.

3. Authentic Presence as Home

The truest version of ourselves isn't something we need to become – it's something we need to remember. It waits patiently at the edge of our awareness, accessible the moment we stop performing and start being.

Three Reflective Prompts

  • What happens when I stop trying to control the outcome and simply listen?

  • Where in my life am I forcing what wants to emerge naturally?

  • What would change if I approached this challenge with childlike curiosity instead of adult urgency?

"Be yourself – everyone else is already taken." – Oscar Wilde
