How to Strengthen Your Intuition: 5 Lifestyle Shifts to Deepen Inner Guidance

Updated: 10 hours ago

If you’ve ever asked, “How can I improve my intuition?” — this is where you begin.

What Is Intuition?

Intuition is discernment + inner knowing — a powerful inner guidance system that helps you perceive what is aligned, true, and best for you.

It is not fear, wishful thinking, or an impulsive emotion. It can be a subtle, steady wisdom that arises when the mind quiets and the body is grounded.

Intuition may show up as:

  • A clear sense of direction in a decision. A 'yes' or 'no'

  • A subtle feeling in the body, open or close, free or tight, for example

  • A sudden insight or idea that pops in slowly or like lightening

  • A quiet inner nudge guiding you. Sometimes you have to wait for a bit. Let it come to you.

Everyone has this innate capacity. I think the difference between someone who's more connected versus someone who isn't lies in their daily practices and habits.

It's about cultivating practices of presence, peace, and that alone helps build up an awareness. It could be how your body feels, to mentally just breathe with no one around (I love my 6am moments on my chair with a good cup of coffee), and maybe meditation, or watching the day come alive. I love watching the trees sway in the breeze, the birds that drop and say hello, or a simple cuddle with my dog Rosie. I feel myself within myself.

Make sense? Let me know what you do to cultivate a practice for presence.

1. Simplify Your Environment to Clear Mental Clutter

One of the most overlooked ways to strengthen intuition is by simplifying your physical space. There's nothing worse than a space that's cluttered, unorganized and doesn't breathe a kind of peace into you. Ambience matters. You feel it.

Clutter creates cognitive noise. Over-scheduling creates nervous system dysregulation, spiking cortisol, raising feelings of overwhelm, even anxiety.

There were times during my life when I had to live in other people's clutter, but my bedroom always had to be tidy or organized for study time, or to sleep well.

When you declutter your home, refine your routines, and release unnecessary commitments, you create internal spaciousness.

Ask yourself:

  • Does my environment feel peaceful or draining?

  • Do you have too many pieces of furniture in the room?

  • What can I release to create more breathing room?

Clarity is supported by simplicity, softness, and sounds (light music or nature on its own.

2. Create a Sacred Space for Intuitive Connection

To deepen intuition, create a consistent place for stillness.

It does not need to be elaborate. It can be:

  • A comfy chair near a window or a quiet corner

  • A meditation cushion that is supportive, maybe a few extra cushions

  • A journal and pen/pencil, the old fashioned way, for when inspiration strikes

  • A candle, incense, or soft soothing music. I enjoy nature sounds like ocean waves

Returning to the same space for meditation, reflection, or intuitive writing trains your nervous system to settle more quickly. Over time, that space becomes energetically charged with intention. Whenever clients come to my home studio for readings or reiki, they always comment on the space, "Your home feels so peaceful."

Your body recognizes it as a doorway or way inward. This is how intuitive trust deepens — through rhythm, repetition, and sacred pause. I like to call it my "be with me" time.

3. Support Your Body to Strengthen Intuitive Clarity

Intuition is energy that flows through a regulated nervous system.

If you are exhausted, dehydrated, overstimulated, or undernourished, intuitive perception can become clouded by stress and anxiety. Ungroundedness.

To strengthen your intuition naturally:

  • Prioritize nourishing food

  • Hydrate consistently (I love to have a bottle of mineral water weekly)

  • Move your body gently and regularly. Express it in a variety of ways

  • Protect your sleep. Ensure your bedroom is calm and clutter free

  • Walk outside or sit in the sunshine

"When you treat your body as a temple and slow down, intuition rises naturally, guiding you through change with clarity and grace."

4. Slow Down to Hear Your Inner Voice

Modern culture rewards speed, productivity, and constant stimulation.

Busyness does not support intuition. It will create space between you and it.

Even in a full life, you can:

  • Take three conscious breaths before responding

  • Step outside and feel the sun or wind on your skin

  • Sit in silence for five minutes at the start or end of your day

  • Reduce unnecessary screen time, scrolling, gaming, or anything that is unhelpful and disempowering.

These small pauses begin to rewire your awareness (you'll notice the small things... they matter more than you think). Slowing down recalibrates your inner compass. When you soften your pace, you begin to distinguish fear, ego, and true intuitive guidance.

5. Treat Your Body as a Temple: The Compounding Power of Daily Care

Cultivate clarity, presence, and inner wisdom through simple spiritual practices. Walking in nature. Trees and greenery along a path.

Your body is a fine, a damn fine-tuned instrument that deserves care and to be valued for all it does in a day. Think of it like compound interest on an investment, the more you invest in yourself, it will reward you over and over.

Your quality of life compounds as you take care of yourself— or it depletes, devalues, or disempowers. I said that earlier.

Every habit either:

  • Builds energy

  • Maintains energy

  • Or drains energy (What drains your energy, or who... drains it)

Toxic habits — whether physical, emotional, or digital — it clouds perception: overconsumption, excessive screen time, negative self-talk, substances, chronic overworking. These disempower your nervous system by overloading it with the stress hormone, cortisol and in turn it weakens intuitive clarity over time or outright completely.

Small daily commitments compound powerfully:

  • A morning grounding practice

  • A consistent sleep routine (guard your sleep, it's THE health tip

  • Conscious boundaries around technology (Set the time: 6pm in the drawer)

  • Nourishing food choices (lots of color, variety, water)

  • Limiting what depletes your energy

This is not about perfection. It is quite beautiful in that it is in devotion to you. A daily routine that takes care of you is not selfish — it is spiritual leadership. When you treat your body as sacred, your intuition strengthens naturally. Energy rises. Clarity sharpens. Discernment deepens.

Without quiet time, it's not so easy to pick up the subtle patterns of intuitions. This is about attuning, tuning into your beautiful body, mind and soul.

You can build a life-affirming routine first thing in the morning and by the way... your phone is set to 'Do not disturb.' We don't won't you overloaded with a rush of the day or dopamine rush that spikes cortisol first thing in the morning.

Here's a routine I've adopted over the years:

6:30 am: Wake up, prepare a coffee, then sit in my comfy chair (I love a good cafe latte)

7:00 to 7:20 am: Meditation. I practice transcendental meditation with a personal mantra.

7:20 to 7:30 am: Channeled writing, some breathwork to light up my chakras.

7:30 to 7:40 am: Stretching by the window to get some sun in my eyes.

7:40 to 8:00 am: Breakfast (I do love oatmeal with fruit, kefir/yogurt & cinnamon.

8:00 to 8:30 am: A walk with Rosie

8:30 to 9:00 am: Read through emails, prep for clients, and a quick look at social media.

The Truth About Developing Intuition - It a journey, a spiritual one to many.

Strengthening intuition is not about chasing mystical experiences.

It is about cultivating important practices, routines, or rituals for:

  • Presence

  • Grounded awareness

  • Emotional regulation

  • Energetic clarity

  • Daily self-devotion

When you reduce internal and external noise, intuitive wisdom rises naturally.

Your intuition is already active. It is already guiding you. Your role is to create the conditions where you can hear it clearly.

Lastly, disconnect from low vibrational people and locations that drain your energy. Fill your day with people and activities that you enjoy, or find moments of joy through presence.

In Summary
