Year of the Double Fire Horse 2026: A Call to Courageous Action and Transformation

Year of the Fire Horse 2026: Transform Your Life with Courage
"You were wild once. Don't let them tame you." —Isadora Duncan

I've been drawn to horses from as far back as I can remember. It wasn't until after my mother passed in 2003 that I found pictures of my parents with a family of horses at a house and farm they owned before I was born. It was in fact the town of my birth place, Birch Hills, Saskatchewan.

A year after I was born, my father was transferred to Melfort, and unfortunately, they were forced to sell the horses for a variety of reasons. I can only imagine the pressure of a new job, a young family, and stress of a new home.

When I was about three years old, I remember asking for a horse for my birthday over and over. I must have sounded like a broken record. But, my love of animals never stopped there, my parents cultivated that connection through outdoor living, camping, hiking and portaging through various lakes across the years.

As I take a moment to scan my work studio, the room is filled with animals, in pictures, as figurines, sculptures, paintings, or even drawings I've collected over the years. The Moose, a bear, an owl, a turtle, a blue jay, a heron, a wolf, many dogs, a whale and a horse of course. (Some inspired other blogs)

Take a moment to explore your home and notice the animals you're drawn toward. Which ones are showing up in nature or natural surrounding, or perhaps in your dreams?

Interestingly, animals have been our companions and teachers long before we had words for it, and that deep connection never leaves us.

Nearly every ancient tradition recognized them as guides and messengers — which tells us this connection runs far deeper than coincidence. We're drawn to them because they embody qualities we're either growing into or missing within ourselves, like the horse's power and freedom to move through life with grace.

They mirror a quiet wisdom we long to return to, or you may long to return to.

When an animal crosses your path, it's worth pausing to ask — what is it reflecting back to me?

This brings me to today's blog, the fire horse, or the 'double fire horse.'

The double fire horse year offers an opportunity to reflect, take action, and lead yourself through a transformational period.

The energetic transition began on February 3rd, then marked by the date, February 17th. A great reminder in general to head the call to be tamed, or limited. Isadora Duncan, a famous poet once wrote, "You were wild once. Don't let them tame you."

The year of the Fire Horse — A rare year due to the intersection in the Chinese zodiac where the element of fire is doubled along with the spirit of the horse.

Double the energy of fire, emphasizing passion, courage, independence in a time which will be deeply transformative for you if you “double down” on those key areas of life, passion projects that deserve, time, energy and focus. Also, doubling the importance of the year and the transformative possibilities for you in this year.

In preparation for this blog, I happened to have a dream that included a visit from a horse along with a three-headed horse. They quite literally found me in a forest where I had been hiding, calling me to come out onto the path where they stood waiting for me. When I stepped out onto the path, the dream faded away, and I woke up. I noted the experience and what I felt it meant for myself personally.

I recognized both experiences, a powerful blend of energy bringing more balance to my professional and personal life, and to new and exciting opportunities ahead.

Let's dive into the meaning of the fire horse with a focus on you. Remember this:

Stoke the fire of your passions, breathe freely into life with your light, shine on with courage, and strength as many are watching and waiting to witness the grace of possibility. — Christie Flynn

What is the Fire Horse Year 2026?

In the Chinese zodiac, each year is represented by one of twelve animals and one of five elements. The horse is a symbol of freedom, independence, speed, and untamed spirit. Fire is the element of transformation, passion, willpower, and inner drive.

When fire meets horse, you get something wild and unstoppable— that incredible drive or desire you have within you. A force that refuses to be corralled, one that demands movement, action, and courage.

The Double Fire Horse amplifies this. Fire on fire. The “heat is on” (heat on heat). This is not a year to play it safe, ask permission or worry about judgement. It’s about imperfect action and figuring It out along the say. Everything is figure-out-able.

When you pull these elements together, fire and the horse, this is a year that will reward you when you’re brave, decisive, and willing to follow your heart's desire as if nothing can hold you back.

The Fire Element

Fire is the fuel of passion, excitement, adventure, independence, and inspiration. It's what ignites when you make the choice to take an active role in your own transformation.

But fire is not passive. It doesn't just exist — it requires something from you. You have to feed it. Stoke it. Tend to it. Fire responds to free will. It grows where you direct your attention and withers where you neglect it.

This year asks you to keep the fires burning. To notice what excites you, what pulls you forward, what makes you feel alive — and then to act on it.

Courage is the spark. Confidence is what happens when you take that first step and realize you're still standing. Momentum is what builds when courage and confidence meet action. And transformation? That's the result of all three working together.

Courage leads to confidence. Confidence leads to progress. Progress leads to incredible moments of transformation. And you’re worth it. It’s time to be BOLD my friend.

The Shadow Side: When Fire Burns Out of Control

I want to bring your attention to the other side of fire because the thing about fire: it doesn't discriminate. It will burn whatever you put in front of it — passion or frustration, inspiration or anger.

What do I mean by the shadow side? Let me say this, I believe that the darker side can be helpful, especially when I'm standing up for myself and bring a bit of tenacious attitude when I use the word, "No." No, is a full sentence my friend.

But on the other hand, it can be unhelpful, even toxic when you an emotions runs free, or in this case gallops away without any awareness or objectivity. Learning how to diffuse it within yourself take maturity, awareness and time.

Pay close attention when your emotions rise, you get triggered about something, or especially when you feel frustrated. Frustration left unchecked can lead to anger. Anger left unchecked becomes aggression. And all of that is a waste of your fire, your energy, your light.

I’m asking you to rise about that, own it in the moment and check yourself. Note when it happens, how it happens and who’s pushing your buttons.

Recognize that emotion or emotions, is incredibly empowering.

I want you to say to yourself, “No, I’m not doing that anymore. I’m better than that.”

Plus, you have important work to get done and you don’t want to be thrown off by emotion.

Rise above.

Fire Needs Movement: You've Got to Let it Go Somehow

Fire needs air. Tame it with slow, deep breaths in and out. Or find another form of release — usually something physical. A walk. A run. A moment of movement. Fire that's trapped inside you will burn you from the inside out. Fire that's released consciously can clear the path forward.

This is one of the most important lessons of the Fire Horse year:

Be the master of your fire, not its servant.

Watch your emotional triggers. Catch them early, before they build into something you didn't intend. Make a conscious effort to be your better self. Simple as that sounds, it isn't always easy. But it's necessary.

Because wasted anger is wasted power. And this year, you can't afford to waste your power (your energy).

One idea that I know works for myself within traditional astrology as a Cancer ruled by the Moon, is the support of water. Water therapy such as swimming, a quick shower, or hanging out in or around the lake, ocean preferably, this helps to diffuse any non-beneficial emotions or energies. I know what helps me, so I intuitively know what helps me.

Think back to your childhood. Where did you love to hangout? The water, forest, sunshine, or maybe the mountains. Figure out which one you love and feel an immediate release when you’re in it or surrounded by it.

Shake it off.

Dance it off.

Run it off.

Work it off.

Ground it in nature... a good walk, a hike, or something fun.

Singing, screaming, sailing or swim.

Know thyself be true.

Lighten up with something loving, kind and good.

Fire as Rebirth Through Willpower

Horses in a pasture sharing the essence of Horse Fire Energy

Fire doesn't just destroy, it clears space and opens you up for more. It burns away what no longer serves so something new can grow in its place.

We see this in nature over and over. Nature finds a way and you can too.

Think of the Phoenix rising from the ashes, the cycles of life and nature. The forest that regenerates after the flames. The blacksmith's forge that turns raw metal into something useful and beautiful.

The candle that lights the way, much like the sunshine.

Fire is the element of rebirth through willpower. And willpower is your ability to direct your fire intentionally — toward what you want to create, not just what you want to escape.

So, the question becomes: What needs to burn away for you to rise? What do you need to let go?

What old patterns are you carrying that no longer fit?

What fears are holding you back?

What stories are you telling yourself that keep you at a standstill, small, stuck, or silent?

This is a year to let those things go.

Make space.

Step forward into the version of yourself, the one you are in the process of becoming.

I see that flame within you. You got this! You can do it!

Key Themes for the Fire Horse Year Ahead in 2026

Be watchful of these three areas:

1. Follow through on your ideas. (Start with One.)

The ones you've been sitting on. The ones that keep coming back. The ones that make your heart beat a little faster. This is the year to act on them. Start with ONE step.

2. Watch your triggers. (What is one main trigger now?)

Emotions will rise this year. That's guaranteed. Fire energy brings everything to the surface. The key is to catch it early — when it's still a spark, not a wildfire. Diffuse it before it spreads. Breathe. Move. Release.

3. Be visible.

This is a year of visibility. Of shining a light on who you are and what you're capable of. If you've been hiding, playing small, or waiting for the "right time" to be seen — this is it.

4. Make decisions.

When you choose to decide, hesitation falls away with each decision you stand by. Decisive action over hesitation. This is not a year for sitting on the fence. Pick a direction and see where it goes.

5. Don't waste your fire.

Protect your energy. Guard your passion. Don't burn it on things that don't matter — arguments that go nowhere, frustrations that don't serve you, people who drain you. Limit scrolling time, focus on that ONE area free from distraction. I once read that a write had two computers. One for work and one for writing (zero connection to the outside world such as emails, constant notification, the news or social media)

6. Trust your willpower.

You have more power than you think. More strength. More capacity. Fire responds to intention. If you can direct your will, you can direct your life.

This year will prove that to you — if you let it.

Your Fire Horse Challenge

Here's the question that matters most:

What is one idea or area in your life that deserves attention right now?

Not ten. Not five. One. (only one please)

Because fire spreads from a single spark.

Maybe it's a project you've been putting off. A relationship you've been neglecting. A dream you've been too afraid to voice out loud. A habit you need to break or a new one you need to build. Explore. Take to the grand adventure. Wander and wonder.

Whatever it is, name it. Write it down. Say it out loud. And then take one step toward it today.

That's how you honor the fire. That's how you step into this year with intention.

Keep the Fires Burning

What does the fire horse year mean?

Be willing to follow your heart even when the path isn't clear. The unknown is a good thing. One of my favorite quotes from an old book I recently read, titled, The Man in the Grey Flannel Suit, “I’ll see where this goes.”

This is your year to burn brighter, take up space, be visible.

Own it and to embrace confidence as you move along, one moment at a time.

One day at a time.

The fire is already inside you. It always has been.

The way to discover what the fire horse year 2026 may mean to you is through reflection.

Even if it's not your zodiac sign, it evokes the same kind of inspiration or fire within to get you going.

And if it does inspire you...

The only question is: What will you do with it?

To inspire you further perhaps consider sitting down with a notebook or journal to explore these ideas in a location that's quiet and free from distraction. Turn of the phone, or set it on silent. A timer for ten minutes should be enough or a starting point.

Breathing Exercises:

  1. Box Breathing (Taming the Fire)

For when emotions are rising and you need to reset the fire within.

Inhale for 4 counts, hold for 4 counts, exhale for 4 counts. Repeat for 3 to 6 rounds.

  1. Breath of Fire (Stoking the Fire)

To spark the fire of your energy and activate your inner power.

Sit upright with a tall posture. Imagine a long straight string of light pulling up from the the base of your spine, all the way up through the crown/top of your head into the sky.

Breathe in through the nose and exhale from the back of the throat.

Let the natural flow of the breath move in and out, continuing to exhale through the back of the throat. Complete 3 to 7 rounds.

  1. Wim Hof Breathing Exercises (Enlighten the Fire within)

Follow through on the website or download the Wim Hoff App.

I completed Wim Hof's full day workshop that included the ice bath and breathwork. It was quite empowering. I lasted almost 3 minutes in the ice bath. (2021)
