The Quiet Power of Intuition: How It Can Help In Unexpected Ways
Intuition is defined as "the power or faculty of attaining to direct knowledge or cognition without evidence of rational thought and inference."
We all have moments in life when things just don’t feel right. You might feel uneasy in your stomach or experience a subtle nudge to take a different path—these are the whispers of intuition. But what if you could trust and harness that inner guidance when it shows up?
In this story, I’ll share an experience that forever changed how I view the power of intuition—and how it can step in when you need it the most. Trust me, the universe has a way of guiding us, often in ways we least expect.
Five years ago, I was sitting on a couch in an executive room at a hotel, waiting for my next client to arrive. I had no idea that a simple knock on the door would change everything.
At first, I assumed my client, Annie, had arrived early. But something stirred inside me—a subtle warning urging me to proceed cautiously. As I opened the door, three tall young men stood before me. They weren't what I had expected, and I had a bad feeling about them as if a spontaneous knowing arrived in my body. I began to feel agitated and a bit angry, too.
My heart began to race. Intuition and instinct kicked in. I knew something wasn’t right. I smiled, masking my unease. "How can I help you?"
One of the men quickly spoke. "Hi, we drove from Fredericton to speak with you today. We have a few questions. Do you experience headaches? Stomach aches? Trouble sleeping? Do you lash out in anger?"
My body was on high alert, but I wasn’t about to let fear take over. I forced a smile, trying to remain calm. "No, not at all," I replied. How can I help you?"
And then, something quite profound happened. I felt my mother’s loving presence—her familiar, comforting energy enveloped me.
I heard her voice in my mind, firm but gentle:
“Be careful here.”
The men exchanged glances before one of them said, “We want to pray for you; we’re with the church.”
I exhaled slowly, keeping my composure. Fear wasn’t an option, but I had to think quickly. As they reached for my hands, I didn’t pull away. Instead, I grasped theirs with strength and conviction, summoning something far greater than fear—love.
I heard my mother’s voice again—playful yet unwavering: “Let’s Reiki the bleep out of them and send them our love!”
And that’s exactly what I did. With every ounce of energy, I sent a wave of white light and love through my hands, filling the space between us. At that moment, I could feel it—something shifted. And I could tell, so could they.
As if on cue, a door down the hall opened. An older woman stepped out and casually walked toward us. "Sorry, I’m a bit early, Christie," she said, unaware of the tension in the air.
I had never been so happy to see anyone.
The three men stiffened. Without a word, they quickly thanked me and left—as though their lives depended on it.
The Power of Intuition
That experience reminded me of something I’ve always known: intuition is our greatest ally. It speaks to us in whispers, nudges, and gut feelings, guiding us when logic falls short. That day, my intuition protected me, transforming fear into strength and resistance into peace.
We all have this inner wisdom. The question is, do we listen? Do we recognize it when it speaks?
Connecting to Your Intuition
Intuition is the ability to understand or know something without thinking about it. It’s a knowing that comes without conscious reasoning or logic—sometimes, it just doesn’t make "logical sense."
As sentient beings, we can perceive and respond to sensations through our five senses (sight, hearing, taste, smell, and touch) and our mind, heart, and gut—our second brain. The body is finely tuned to receive and send signals, much like a radio transmitter picking up on frequencies we can’t always explain.
These signals can be perceived if you're open to them. And by open, I mean, do you take time to notice things around you, to slow down, close your eyes, and feel things with your non-physical senses?
Spending time in nature, observing, feeling, and witnessing everything can also help to support intuition. When the idea pops into your inner mind that a squirrel or even a deer is close by, there it is, standing just off to your right, observing you.
When you slow down long enough to witness the world beyond you, you may begin to notice that it is more alive than you thought. You may even have subtle feelings about things, people, or places.
Take your time and love the journey. Patience is a virtue.
If anything, it is about the journey, not the goal or destination. Because it is in the micro
shifts that magical coincidences begin to materialize. Your conscious awareness has been re-awakened.
An Exercise to Connect with Your Intuition
Ready to tap into your intuition? Start with this exercise:
Think back to when you had a strong feeling or insight about something. It could be an event, an experience, or even someone you met. Write down your story, focusing on the details—especially how you felt and what you saw, heard, or sensed.
Take your time with this. Over the week, let the story expand. How did your intuition show up? What sense were you relying on in that moment?
Reverse-engineer the experience to understand how your intuition guided you.
By doing this, you’ll begin to recognize how intuitive wisdom speaks to you in your own life—and how you can rely on it when you need it most.
The Funny Part of My Story…
Later that evening, after finishing my readings for the day, I headed to meet my event manager for dinner before the evening event I was hosting. When I stepped out of the elevator, my manager rushed towards me, shouting wide-eyed and breathless. "Christie! What the heck did you do to those guys?" she asked.
I blinked, caught off guard. "Uh… what do you mean?"
She threw her hands in the air. "They bolted out of here like their pants were on fire! One tripped over a chair, and another nearly took out a lamp trying to get to the door. It was like they saw a ghost!" I couldn’t help but laugh. "Well… maybe they did!
What about you? Have you ever had an experience where your intuition guided you, even when logic couldn’t explain it?
Embracing Your Intuition
That experience taught me a valuable lesson: intuition is not just a fleeting feeling—it’s a powerful ally that can guide us through even the most uncertain moments. By learning to listen and trust it, we unlock a deeper level of wisdom and clarity that can help us make confident decisions and easily navigate life's challenges.
I encourage you to start paying attention to those subtle nudges, feelings, and things you know before they happen, only to realize shortly after.
Give them a chance, let them ride, and trust.
The more you tune in, the stronger your connection to your intuition will become. Trust that inner wisdom—it’s always there, guiding you toward what’s best for you.
